Pro Choice, Not Pro Abortion!

While I do not consider myself pro abortion, I am however, pro choice.

Ideally, no one should ever be killed in my opinion, whether they are unborn babies or convicted capital criminals.

But technologically, society has not yet provided a perfect alternative to abortion. That would be an option that effectively refutes all possible reasons why someone would want to have an abortion.

So until then, the right of a woman to control her own body must be preserved. Why? Because if it isn’t, what will the pro lifers try to control next? Might they tell men they can’t have vasectomies, or women that they may not have hysterectomies? When society starts mandating what people can and cannot do with their bodies, it enters quite the slippery slope of debate on a myriad of subjects. Perhaps that’s a good thing.

But then again, in this case, perhaps it is not. Indeed, society has yet to evolve enough intellectually, socially, or philosophically to really tackle the issues that would arise, should it further dictate how women manage their bodies.

Abortion is a tough issue, and I might add, quite different from the death penalty. Thus, opposing the death penalty while supporting abortion rights makes not one a hypocrite.

So while I do not necessarily favor abortion itself, I do support a woman’s right to choose whether or not to have one (pro choice), as she is most aware of her situation and abilities, and so is probably in the best position to make the most informed decision regarding the termination of her pregnancy.
