Pro Choice
Dear [Lynn],
You’re welcome [for the Planned Parenthood URL I provided]. I filled out a few letter forms on the site. Hope that if enough of us pro choice supporters speak up, one of America’s fundamental liberties (the choice of whether or not to carry a difficult pregnancy to term) will be preserved. Abortion is not preferred certainly. But sometimes, it’s necessary, and I indeed support abortion in cases of necessity. So, I guess that means that I’m Pro Choice, but Not Pro Abortion.

This woman argued against abortion from a God-fearing perspective. So I responded as follows:
Kelli. FRIEND Kelli. Friend of more than 22 YEARS Kelli! You know I can’t debate you regarding the role that God plays in the creation of life. Such a debate would be pointless, as you and I are not agreed on the basic truths upon which… such a discussion would need to rest, in order to be constructive. Specifically, you insist that God exists and is responsible for the creation of life, that he has definite opinions about how that life should be regarded here on Earth, as well as the means to enforce his will here. But while I truly hope that most of this is the case, I’m by no means CONVINCED that it is; particularly since I’ve never met God myself, and have never heard him say precisely WHAT he wants, without all the ambiguous poetry and riddles found in “his” book, The Bible. So, with hopes of preserving our friendship for another 22 years, I’ll refrain from addressing the parts of your anti-abortion argument that depend on the existence of God.
